Groves Residents Group has been nominated for the Manchester Be Proud Awards – not only that, but we have made it to the final on November 16. It's nice to get recognition for the hard work that so many have been doing to clean up and improve our streets and alleys, and the Community Garden.
We have been asked for a group photo for the Awards Programme. This will be taken at our monthly clean-up on Saturday October 5, 2pm. Let's a get a good turn out and a lot of smiling faces!

Thanks everyone who helped with our latest monthly (-ish) clean up last Saturday. It is good to keep on top of the litter problem, and it’s a great way to get to know each other better. As before, the bags that we left at the end of Upper West Grove were taken by Biffa. This is a special extra collection they do for us. Don't leave bags there at any other time!! We noticed by Monday a few extra items had been left with our bags - bits of furniture, a mattress. Maybe this was from a few people trying to be helpful, but our arrangement with Biffa is bags only. However, everything was taken this time and we are trying to find to if that was a one-off or not. On April 21 we had the first of our regular small clean-ups. It was great to see a good number of volunteers out with litter-pickers and bags to pick-up litter from the streets that had collected since our big Spring Clean in March. Having these clean-ups every few weeks does not take much time and keeps the Groves looking good. The Council arranged for the bags we filled to be collected early the next week. We also gave out some "Is this Your Rubbish?" notices to houses near where some rubbish bags or objects had been dumped – two leaflets with a photo of the rubbish. These were to warn whoever did it that there are big fines, and also to inform them of how to get help to dispose of their rubbish legally. The alley behind West Grove has been particularly bad for litter, debris and dumped rubbish. Here are before and after pictures showing what a difference has been made by our Spring Clean and then the deep clean by Redgate Holdings.
After our Spring Clean on March 17, local company Redgate Holdings came and gave our alleys a professional clean. A big thank you to them and to Katrina from the Council for arranging it.
