Disposing of large unwanted items |
Got a new sofa? Need to get rid of the old one? The Council has a large item disposal service, which you are entitled to use FREE for up to 3 items once a year. Extra items or further collections cost £27 for 1-3 items and £54 for 4-6 items. This is legal (no fly-tipping fines) and good for the environment.
You can also use this service if you have contaminated recycling bins that the bin collection people will not take. The bin or bins will be taken away, emptied and returned (each bin counts as one item).
To use this service go to this page online. Read through the information, then click on 'Order Your Collection'.
You will need an account. This is to ensure only Manchester residents use the service.
OR... Maybe someone else could use your item. If it is in good condition, some local charities will collect it. These include: The Mustard Tree, British Heart Foundation, St Ann's Hospice Ardwick Furniture Shop, Tree of Life Centre. A further option is the Freecvcle website.

Reporting dumped rubbish and fly-tipping |
Dumping rubbish or fly-tipping is illegal and dangerous. It makes our streets and alleys look awful and is a health hazard that can cause injury and can attract rats. It is important to report dumped rubbish so it can be removed. If you can provide evidence of who did the dumping or tipping you can help the Council to catch them and issue a fine. Illegal dumping can also be a breach of tenancy agreements.
To report dumped rubbish go to this page. You do not need to sign in unless you are also providing evidence of who did it. Read through the information then click 'Begin this form'.

How to get help with the Council's Online Services. A number to call. |
If you're reading this, you must be online! However, many Council services can only be accessed in this way. They do try to make these processes as easy as possible, but some of the online application forms (like the one for Parking Permits) can still be difficult for some people. These can be people who do not have a device with which to go online, or are elderly, or do not have English as a first language or have disabilities that prevent them from being able to use a computer. If you know someone in this position, you or they can ring this Free Council Helpline: 0800 234 6123. Say you are asking for help with using online services.
