The Croft Community Garden
Tucked behind North, South, Upper West and the top end of East Groves is our little area of green space, known as The Croft. The story is that during the war there were air-raid shelters here and at some time later the space was landscaped. However, it fell into dis-repair and mis-use and became a dumping ground. With the help of a Council Environment Officer and some volunteers several Groves residents filled two skips with rubbish and received some grants to put in new plants and flowers and install gates at each end. These gates do not have locks and are designed to help keep small children safe as they play here.
Now we have a community garden for all to use. Play areas for children, spaces to relax, and flowers, trees, plants to enjoy. There are even some vegetables and herbs that are free to pick. Of course this does not happen by magic and volunteers are needed to maintain the garden. If you would like to help please send an email or contact Judith at 17 Upper West Grove.
Every summer we have a Bring and Share Picnic. Everyone is invited to bring along some food or soft drinks to enjoy together and play games with the children. |
