The picture shows the alley behind West Grove before and after one of our Spring Cleans and then a professional deep clean by Redgate Holdings. This is the difference we can make. The thing is to maintain it by making sure no more litter is dropped or rubbish dumped or tipped. How can we do that?
Education: We need to help make sure everyone understands about bin collection and re-cycling. Not just the legal stuff but its importance for our environment. We have partnered with the Council and local businesses to put on fun educational events and trips (such as our visit to a re-cycling plant) Prevention: There are signs up and the Council are willing to provide security lights for some of the alleys. We have more and more residents aware of the problem and watching out for littering, dumping and tipping. Any other ideas? Deterrence: Unfortunately for some only the threat of fines or legal action will change their behaviour. The Council are able to analyse dumped rubbish to trace its origin and we know of a number cases that have been pursued. |
Picking up: Even with all the above, there will still be some picking up to do. So we have community litter picks and the bags are collected by the Council.
