In March 2018 we took part in The Great British Spring Clean, organised by Keep Britain Tidy. It was great to have so many turn out to help, including our 3 Councillors, and between us we picked up 69 bags of rubbish. Lots of hard work and quite an achievement (not that there should have been anything like that amount of stuff to pick up...!) Even better, local company Reigate Holdings gave our alleys a professional clean afterwards. We did it again in 2019 and subsequent years and have been holding regular litter-picks since.
It is important that we keep doing this, despite the fact that the litter invariably builds up again, as another fact is that rubbish attracts more rubbish. But this can work both ways and our hope is that seeing the streets and alleys free from litter and rubbish will make people think twice about dropping more. And will give us a positive picture of what could be.
